Hints & Tips...
A portrait sitting or a portfolio session is a whole experience, not just a time when a few photographs are taken for the family record.
To gain the best value from the sitting it needs to be planned carefully. We suggest you book an appointment with us so that we can explain the range of services that we offer, the facilities available and how to best structure the event.
Below are just a few simple pointers to remember when making your final plans for the day.
Men - Bring formal and informal clothing to allow a variety of styles of image. Shave as late as possible before the sitting.
Women – It is best (but not essential) in family portraits to have arms and shoulders covered. For glamour shots do not wear a bra before the sitting, as the strap marks will show. Makeup as for an evening out on the town or simple everyday makeup.
Children – It is probably better not to tell children, especially 2- 5 year olds as you want more relaxed normal photographs. If you want a hobby photograph bring appropriate props.
Babies – keep to pale colours and not knitted items, bring a change in case of sickness avoid short skirts and bib fronts (both ride up!)
Pets - keep them as calm as possible before the sitting and let us take charge once you arrive – leave the animal in the car until required.
Time – Appointments on Saturdays and Sundays are limited – please ensure you are on time for your appointment.
Colours and materials - Avoid bright colours and highly patterned outfits for babies, children and family shoots. Avoid dungarees or bib fronts as they ride up over the face. Babies in nappies should not wear short skirts. Avoid wording on tops as you will look at the wording in photographs, not the face.
Shoes – You will be asked to remove shoes in all cases except full length photographs and in model portfolios.
